Summary: The Independent Distribution System Operator (IDSO) framework features a single central market platform and a number of local market platforms.
IDSOs organise and operate local market platforms to procure distribution network support and control ancillary services to solve distribution network constraints as a potential alternative to traditional investment. DNSPs continue to build, maintain and operate the physical infrastructure of the distribution network and actively exchange information with IDSOs to develop distribution network constraints.
AMEO organises and operates the central market platform comprising of wholesale energy and select ancillary services markets (i.e. frequency control ancillary services, transmission network control and control ancillary services).
Distributed Energy Resources can participate in the central or local markets via an aggregator and/or energy retailer to provide wholesale energy and/or ancillary services. DER bids for the central market are prequalified and aggregated by the local platform to take account of distribution network constraints.
