Energy Networks Australia welcomes Solar Sharer Offer next steps
• National industry body represents Australia’s electricity transmission and distribution and gas distribution networks
• Looking forward to working with Australian Energy Regulator to align policy, infrastructure investment and energy tariffs to ensure the program’s success
Energy Networks Australia (ENA) has welcomed today’s release of the Solar Sharer Offer outcomes paper.
ENA CEO Dom van den Berg said closing the gap between energy “haves” and “have-nots” must remain a priority in Australia’s clean energy transition.
“Households able to install rooftop solar, add batteries or purchase an electric vehicle are seeing real reductions in their overall energy costs,” Ms van den Berg said.
“But many others – including renters – simply don’t have that option. The Solar Sharer Offer is the kind of policy action that aims to help address this inequity.”
Ms van den Berg said that for the program to deliver its full benefits, policy design must be supported by the right market settings.
“At the same time, it is critical that policy, infrastructure investment and energy tariffs are aligned to ensure the program’s success,” she said.
“We will review the six design principles and work closely with the Australian Energy Regulator to help create a pathway that delivers lasting benefits for all Australians.”
Further, Ms van den Berg said Solar Sharer opens the door to greater network tariff flexibility and ENA is committed to working with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to realise this opportunity.
