Innovation moving networks into the future

A new report from Energy Networks Australia has highlighted how electricity and gas networks are innovating to help deliver the transition to renewables.

ENA Chief Executive Officer Andrew Dillon said networks were evolving at a rapid pace, becoming the platforms to enable a net zero future and giving customers greater control over how they used and consumed energy.

“As Australia’s electricity grid looks to double in size as it decarbonises, innovation is fundamental to future success,” he said.

“This report demonstrates the clever solutions energy networks are developing to integrate renewables into the energy grid safely and efficiently.”

Mr Dillon said the report highlighted submissions from ENA’s Energy Industry Innovation Awards.

“The winning project from Energy Queensland demonstrated an Australian-first implementation of a digital system designed to generate a complete and consistent picture of the operational state of the grid,” he said.

“The project supports the integration of distributed energy resources (DER) like rooftop solar PV so more customers can export solar, voltage impacts on the grid can be mitigated and power quality can be improved.”
